My Professional Journey
Hometown Heritage: Roma, Texas
My hometown is Roma, Texas, a quaint community tucked away beside the Rio Grande. It is a historic town. Roma, which was established in 1765, has a rich cultural history that is inspired by Texan, Spanish, and Mexican customs. The town is well known for its charming architecture, especially in the Roma Historic District, which has exquisitely kept 19th-century structures. Roma, which is a part of the greater Starr County, has a special fusion of natural beauty and historical value, along with breathtaking views of the Rio Grande and verdant surroundings. My upbringing in this dynamic and close-knit society has given me a profound appreciation for customs, resiliency, and communal ideals.
My Path into the Tech World
I was first introduced to technology at a young age. I’ve always been curious about computers and have explored and learned more about them as a result of my fascination with their operation. During my early school years, I had my first encounter with a computer, a Windows XP machine. explore the inner workings of computers and the vast possibilities of the internet. I recall playing around with it for several hours in an attempt to learn all of its features. My lifelong love of technology was ignited by this early exposure, which also led me to pursue a career in cybersecurity and IT. As I continue to delve deeper into the always changing IT scene, my passion for learning and problem-solving keeps me going.
My passion in technology grew as I went through high school, and I became more focused on comprehending and becoming an expert in various computing subjects. My decision to major in cybersecurity at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) was motivated by this enthusiasm, which allowed me to further develop my knowledge and abilities while laying the groundwork for a future in cybersecurity and IT.
My Journey at UTSA: Embracing Excellence in Cybersecurity
I have great admiration for the UTSA cybersecurity department and its goal of offering top-notch graduate and undergraduate courses that are specifically designed to meet the changing demands of the cybersecurity and information systems domains. It is extremely admirable that the program is committed to providing a well-rounded education through the university’s core curriculum while putting a special emphasis on modern business and cybersecurity issues.
I choose the Cybersecurity program at UTSA due to its stellar reputation and all-encompassing approach to learning. The cybersecurity program at UTSA is a pioneer in the industry thanks to its dedication to quality and flexibility in the face of technological advancements, and I’m happy to be a part of it.
Academic Journey in Cybersecurity
My coursework at UTSA provided a robust foundation in various aspects of cybersecurity, networking, and digital forensics, shaping my expertise and practical skills in the field:
Unlocking Cyber (IS 1003)
I developed a comprehensive understanding of core security concepts, explored common challenges and threats, and honed my problem-solving and analytical skills through hands-on labs using virtualization, Linux, and Command Line tools.
Network Security (IS 3423)
This course equipped me with the knowledge of networking technologies crucial for securing networks, covering topics like cryptography, secure networking protocols, and security management, along with practical insights into operational and implementation issues.
Operating Systems and Security (IS 3033)
I gained practical experience in addressing real-world security and performance challenges of operating systems. The hands-on labs focused on securing OS components, server configuration, system-level firewalls, kernel security modules, and more.
Digital Forensic Analysis I (IS 4483)
I delved into digital forensic analysis, learning to use essential tools and techniques to recover and examine trace evidence from computer-related crimes. The course emphasized file system forensic analysis and evaluating data to determine intent, means, and culpability.
Cyber Attack and Defend I (IS 4543)
This course bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application of cybersecurity measures. I learned to implement IT system components, create security policies, and conduct red team assessments to understand and mitigate cyber threats.
Telecommunications and Networking (IS 3413)
I explored data transmission principles and networking, covering network hardware, the OSI model, TCP/IP stack, routing protocols, and various communication technologies. The course also focused on best practices in network management and security.
